Visited Taiping earlier this year whilst staying in Penang, 1st went there back in the 60's and the gardens have hardly changed a really beautiful place to visit and sit and to take pic's of course.
The main reason why we went to Taiping was to pay a return visit to a wonderful lady who runs a home for abused girls.
They visited the Sandy Bay Hotel last year and we immediatly made friends, promising to pay them a visit on our next return to Penang, hence our being in Taiping. We had collected some used clothing that my daughter in England had passed on and we also bought a large qauntity of books, pencils, etc that they desperately needed. We had a very enjoyable visit, we met the ladies parents and then took them to lunch before returning to the house to wait for the children to come home from school.
The house was very sparse, no bedding at all just matress's on bunk beds in the bedrooms, the lady does extremely well as they do not get any help from the government. We will almost certainly visit them again on out return to Penang in the not to distant future. Regards Derrick.
