Like the Berlin Wall - Bukit Berapit used to divide people especially on culture and language. North of Bukit Berapit the Chinese were Hokkien and the Malays spoke the northern dialect. Padang Rengas and south were cantonese and the malays spoke the Perak slang. Today there as many Hokkiens in Ipoh and Cantonese are spoken and understood in Taiping. In Ipoh many malays now speak with the northern dialect. Wonder when will be speaking Thai.
